Ahmedabad

The officials of Ahmedabad City Crime Branch and Anti-Terrorist Squad on late Thursday night seized about 1,300 kg of chemical ephedrine from a factory in Ahmedabad district. Pegged at Rs 270 crore, this is one of the biggest seizures in the country and biggest in the state till date. The team also arrested a chemist Narendra Kancha from the factory on Naroda-Dehgam highway near Kanbha in Ahmedabad, even as it began its hunt for Kishoresinh Rathod, son of a former North Gujarat Congress MLA Bhavsinh Rathod, and Mumbai-based Jay Mukhi.A team of the crime branch has been dispatched to Maharashtra to identify the kingpin behind the racket. The police claimed that chemist Kancha hired the factory premises as a drug storage on rent and that he had come in contact with Kishoresinh Rathod a couple of years ago. Kishoresinh and Jay Mukhi had been “in touch” with a drug mafia of Poland, whom they had met in Dubai and would probably facilitate the transfer of the processed ephedrine to Europe for consumption as a party drug.
