All India Chemists strike on May 30 against e-portals

The Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry (Drugs Control) wants chemists to upload the details of their sales on e-portal within a stipulated period

Chandigarh (Baldev Malhotra) : More than 8.5 lakh chemists across in all over India, who are members of the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), will remain shutting on May 30 to protest the government’s plan to introduce e-portals for the sale of medicines. The Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry (Drugs Control) wants chemists to upload details of their sales on an e-portal within a stipulated period.

All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists has called the move impractical, citing the lack of IT infrastructure in India. They have also said the proposal would be expensive and would require hard work. The government, in recent months, has spoken of promoting generic medicines as well as trying to take steps to rein in anti-microbial resistance to help keep track of sale of drugs.

AIOCD president J.S. Shinde has appealed to all the members of association of India to participate in the widening of the nationwide shutdown on 30th day to avoid loophole.

All the district office bearers of the country are making an earnest effort to make the closure of Tuesday 30 May 2017 with full zeal. This 30th deadline has been fixed so that we can maintain shop keeping of all Chemists colleagues, because the central government is completely making many rules for the closure of chemist’s shops. Its loss is only for the chemists and just the comrades. It is wrong to think that some people will not be able to cooperate with one another.

Companions, if your shop closes, then where will your thinking be? The Center will make new rules and it will be damaged by chemists. For this, only our organization can do so, so everyone has an appeal to cooperate in the strike so that your business is safe. The trader will be safe then his family and you will be safe, otherwise what will happen, nobody knows it.
