New Delhi/ Dubai: As healthcare in Nigeria is in a very poor state, thousand of Nigerian people have to travel all the way to India for advanced health solutions. But that may soon change, as Aster DM Healthcare reaches out to their doorsteps.
The healthcare behemoth, encompassing India and UAE, has partnered with Nigerian University hospital to set up Centres of Excellence there. It will facilitate affordable and accessible quality healthcare to Nigerian people in their own country. A telemedicine unit managed by internationally certified specialists, majority from Aster’s network of 11 hospitals in India will also cater to them.
Aster DM Healthcare entered today into a partnership agreement with a leading university hospital in Nigeria. Aimed at addressing the need gaps in the Nigerian healthcare sector, the partnership with Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) will see the Company setting up centres of excellence across specialties and also a Telemedicine unit.
The announcement comes against a wider backdrop of Nigeria scoring poorly among United Nations member-states, ranked 187th among a total 191 countries. Nigeria’s average expenditure on healthcare stands at US$118 (per capita) , and this when compared to countries in European Union that spend up to EUR 2797 or US$3281, is significantly less.
