Temptation for big money & high society life is spoiling urge for parenthood

New Delhi:  A bizarre trend is catching up in the new age marital life of India. DINK (Double Income No Kids) is the name of a stink that is messing up with fertility.

As lure of lucre is becoming be all and end all of a conjugal life, urge for motherhood among career women is at its lowest ebb.

In the hot career pursuit, a large number of people all over the country including in Delhi are attaining the age when parenthood becomes difficult as they lose their fecundity.

DINK couples delay and put the idea of having bundle of joy on the back burner till they amass lot of wealth and wherewithal to indulge in high life. They are part of the popular culture, infiltrating to India from West that puts carnal pleasures and joys of sex far above the happiness of motherhood.  A growing number of career women are being found visiting assisted fertility clinics in India in their late thirties and forties.

Though some Hollywood heroines sporadically flaunt their baby bumps, as if celebrating motherhood with élan but the urge for parenthood in high society where they come from, is now only skin deep.

The growth of the DINK is reflecting the lives of thousands of those couples who choose to be childless in pursuit of their career ambitions.  A shallow lifestyle embodied by DINK adds nothing to the propagation of the race and family line. Hence, they are contributing towards a major decline of the civilization that has set in.

Though a common phenomena in the West, a developing country India too has been prejudiced by the DINK’s trend. There are varied reasons why some married couples in metropolises choose not to have children.

Inclination towards the ongoing transformation of the socio-economic context and expanded work opportunities have hugely lured talented women who are ready to compete with men to make a move from home to the office. In the process, many choose careers or one-time motherhood and love the work challenge or resort to delayed marriage prospects.

Dr Archana Dhawan Bajaj, renowned Infertility Consultant in Nurture Clinic, says, “Throughout their lives these couples prioritize their work for a family life and plan to settle down for a family life when they near the age of 30-32 (when they achieve much in life and are financially firm). They hardly realize that women have lower pregnancy chances after 30. The fertility of a woman starts declining after a she crosses 27.”

An ace fertility expert, Dr. Bajaj further said, ‘Men’s fertility too starts dropping after 35. The chances of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or chromosomal abnormality go up as you come of age. Hence it is always recommendable for couples to plan for a baby when they are in their twenties.’

‘The peak fertility occurs between 20-30, then starts declining by 20% after 30, 50% after 35 and 95%after 50’, explained Dr. Bajaj. Consequent to the declining rates of fertility after 30 and high risk pregnancy after this age; many couples end up with no kids at all.
