Kanpur: The FSDA team raided a medical store located in Kaushalpuri, RK Nagar and seized fake medicines of renowned companies. Apart from this, prima facie the FSDA team has found a substance like chalk instead of drug ingredient in the medicines. Samples of medicines have been sent to the state analytical lab. The medical store operator could not show any records related to the purchase of these medicines to the team of drug inspectors.
The team seized medicines, drugs and cosmetics worth Rs 4,79,325. By seizing medical services, prohibited buying and selling of these medicines.
On receiving information about the sale of fake and sub-standard medicines, Assistant Commissioner of Drugs Dinesh Kumar Tiwari formed a team and ordered an investigation. The team included city drug inspector Rekha Sachan and Ompal Singh, Etawah drug inspector Rajat Kumar Pandey. The team along with the police from Nazirabad police station raided New Gagan Chemist of Kaushalpuri and started investigating the matter.
During the investigation, Alkem, Torrent, Aristo, Lupine, Sun Pharma, Glenmark, Cipla Limited, Abbott, Dr. Reddy’s and other MNCs Duplicate medicines of these companies were found. Medical store operators could not show the documents regarding purchase of medicines. As per the rules, medicines, drugs and cosmetics worth Rs 4,79,325 were seized by mentioning serial numbers 1 to 26 (page numbers 1 to 4) on Form 16.
The mobile phone of medical store operator Pulkit Gupta was taken into custody after seeing the buying and selling through WhatsApp chat on his mobile phone. The estimated cost of buying and selling medicines on WhatsApp is Rs 22,999.
The total cost of medicines is Rs 5,02,324. Drug Inspector Om Pal Singh said that the medicines will be sent to the State Analytical Lab for testing. After that next action will be taken.
The FSDA team also tested the medicines. “When I tested the medicine Zerodol SP, it tasted like chalk.” Drug Inspector Rekha Sachan said that ‘the real salt which tastes bitter, tasted like chalk.’ Zerodol SP for fever, Tan-10 for gas, DSR, antibiotic Augmentin, Clavam, Telma for blood pressure, two medicines for diabetes, Vertin for dizziness and sleeping medicines are fake.
The coding and MRP of the batch was cut off from these fake medicines in the name of well-known companies. It is suspected that these may also contain some expired medicines. A patient who takes fake blood pressure medicine will remain deceived, if BP increases too much then heart attack may occur. He said that samples of 18 medicines have been sent for testing.
