Private medical stores sold free drugs that were supplied free to hospitals, Probe Ordered

The Indian government has made some drugs free, which should be available free at hospital counters. But in some cities, private chemists are selling these drugs without any fear and having a stamp of  “only hospital supply” too. The incident that proved these kinds of illegal activities happened when one of the cancer patients who is undergoing cancer treatment at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) purchased three injections from a private chemist which had “for hospital supply only” stamped on them.

The patient’s driver purchased the injections for Rs 1,800 from a private chemist shop which should be free supplied from the hospital. A driver also shared that the institute’s welfare society told him that it was not in stock. The patient’s doctor noticed the incident and informed hospital officials.

With taking action on doctor’s complaint, RMLIMS has set up a four-member internal probe committee. Institute’s chief medical superintendent headed the committee and will submit its report.

Professor Deepak Malviya, RMLIMS director shared with the media that, they first matched the batch numbers on the injections with their supply records, as a preliminary step, they don’t match.  Then we decided to look the matter why the patient had to buy the drugs from a private store when they were available with the welfare society.
