Store Operator Arrested With Drugs Worth Rs 3 Crore

Bareilly: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), along with the Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FSDA), seized a large quantity of drugs worth over Rs 3 crore in the Maheshpur region of Bareilly on Monday evening and arrested one accused in connection with the case.

The team recovered 8 boxes containing Tramadol (medicine containing) 1 lakh 9 thousand 584 capsules, 5 boxes containing Alprazolam (medicine containing) 2 lakh 20 thousand 200 tablets, 233 boxes containing Codeine phosphate (medicine containing) 23 thousand 276 bottles. 2 Boxes containing Nitrazepam (medicine containing) 1800 tablets. The estimated cost of these medicines is Rs 3 crore. One lakh 67 thousand rupees have also been recovered.

The accused said that my brother Bablu alias Qamar Ali, son of Nanhe Baksh, resident of village Maheshpur Gandhi Ashram, is in contact with some people from CBganj. Of which I have no knowledge. The same people bring a consignment of intoxicating medicines to my brother Bablu, which we store in this warehouse and seeing the opportunity, we earn profit by selling them through our medical, and both the brothers divide the money.

Munne allegedly operated a medical store but kept the prohibited drugs in a godown from where he supplied them to various contacts in the city at a hefty price, besides selling them from his outlet. Munne confessed to the crime and told cops that his brother Bablu Baksh brought sedatives and sleeping pills from a nexus.

According to Bareilly’s drugs inspector Rajesh Kumar, “We have registered a case against Munne under sections 8, 21, 22 of the NDPS Act. Police arrested Munne and recovered eight cartons of Tramadol containing 1.9 lakh capsules, five cartons of Alprazolam containing 2.20 lakh tablets, 233 cartons of Codeine phosphate, two boxes of Nitrazepam, a mobile phone, and cash of Rs 1.66 lakh from Munne’s godown.”

Teams comprising drugs inspectors Bareilly Rajesh Kumar and Babita Rani, ANTF unit’s sub-inspector Vikas Yadav, CB Ganj SHO Radhey Shyam raided the godown located at Maheshpur close to Gandhi Ashram under CB Ganj police station area of Bareilly after getting a tip-off.
