The Global Indian Physicians COVID-19 Collaborative pays Homage to Frontline Warriors

New Delhi: Doctors and nurses who are dying treating COVID patients are being looked at as martyrs. And it is rightly so. It is only most befitting that Global Indian associations have paid homage to those who dies and also those who in the frontline in the face of death. It is magnanimity on the part of physicians collaborative to choses even nurses for paying homage.

The Global Indian Physicians COVID-19 Collaborative, launched earlier this year on 11th April, paid homage to the efforts of front line warriors across the world in the global response to the COVID19 pandemic. The homage, marked by the release of a video, coincided with Doctor’s Day which falls on July 1st.

The Collaborative, was established jointly by The Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO), The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO), The Canadian Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage (CAPIH) and The Canada India Network Society (CINS), aims at fostering a collaborative approach towards clinical care for COVID19.

Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group and Founder President, GAPIO said, “In the war against COVID-19, which has been fought with great valour, sadly many doctors and nurses of Indian origin have lost their lives in India and the world over. We would like to pay homage to the front line warriors for their supreme sacrifice through this video message.”

Dr. Suresh Reddy, President, AAPI said, “I salute the spirit of doctors, nurses, technicians, paramedical staff, supporting staff and administrators all over the world in this fight.

Dr. Anupam Sibal, President GAPIO, said, “The collaborative aims to foster cross systems learning to arrive at the best possible approach for prevention and management of COVID-19 encompassing vaccination, newer diagnostic tests, ventilation strategies, early warning algorithms to identify deterioration, use of antiviral therapy, plasma therapy and novel agents.”

Dr. Ramesh Mehta, President BAPIO and Past President GAPIO said, “The collaborative brings together 1.4 million physicians of Indian origin from all the world on one platform and will play an important role in the fight against COVID-19.”

Dr. Nandakumar Jairam, Vice President of GAPIO applauded the front-line warriors who have served as pillars of strength in this difficult time and acknowledged the contribution of all healthcare professionals and also thanked their family members for their support.

Dr. Sudhir Parikh, Secretary General of GAPIO said, “Physicians of Indian origin working across the globe have to come together and been at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19, as we have done on many occasions in the past. The world is looking up to us for solutions.”
