New Delhi: UAE government’s largesse coupled with world class Medeor hospital in India proved godsend for hapless Yemenis maimed in civil war. Over 1000 and counting, injured by bullets and blasts, have so far got new lease of life or are on way to recovery. Emirates’ government has fully sponsored the treatment and related needs.
Showcasing the humanitarian medical mission, Dr Ahmed Albanna, UAE’s Ambassador to India on July 23, 2019, emphasised the fact that the medical mission is also symptomatic of cordial relationship that exists between two countries. The Indian government has issued medical attendance visas for these patients. Mr Albama attributed the success of this mission to the world class care facilities in VPS Healthcare’s subsidiary hospital Medeor in Delhi as well. Hundreds of Yemenis including soldiers crippled in Civil War would again lead a normal life, thanks to this medical mission. UAE is providing all kinds of medical and rehabilitation support to Yemen.
This mission started in July, 2016 and still continuing. Injured Yemenis came in batches to India under this mission. The recent batch comprising of 26 Yemen citizens came in June for treatment in Medeor Hospital here. An expert team of doctors and staff from various departments such as Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Ophthalmic surgery attended on them and delivered best of care.
‘UAE has strongest bilateral tie-ups with India for cooperation and collaborations. Healthcare is one of the most important areas of collaboration. UAE government, as its international responsibility and humanitarian aid, chose VPS Healthcare-Medeor Hospital as its partner to provide healthcare facilities to war-injured Yemen people in India. Since July 2016 till date we have provided medical help to over 1,000 Yemen people in India,’ Dr Albanna added.

We are extremely privileged that the UAE government has kept the trust upon us to send the Yemini patients to our hospital in India for treatment. We have formed a special team of specialist doctors and nurses to attend the batch of patients. Renowned Orthopaedician and Chairman, Department of Orthopedics, Medeor Hospital, New Delhi, Dr. PK Dave said, ‘Most of the patients had undergone multiple surgeries earlier and that made our tasks tough. Bullet and blast injuries severely affected their knees, elbows, and joints. We performed surgeries and did joint replacements to provide them relief and a normal-active life.’
