2 Infants Died Post Vaccination, Hospital Sealed

GORAKHPUR : The district health officials sealed a private hospital here on Monday after the death of two infants post vaccination.

The incident took place on March 5, in a reputed private hospital in Karim Nagar locality near BRD medical College during bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination and administration of oral polio drops.

Two infants died while another is serious and under treatment in BRD Medical College. Enraged over the negligence of physicians, parents of the kids had staged a dharna at the district magistrate’s office.

Two days later, on March 7, chief medical officer Dr Ashutosh Dubey constituted a three -member probe committee and in the light of primary reports, the district authorities sealed the hospital on Monday. A case was also registered against the physicians.

Additional chief medical officer Dr Nandlal said the vial that was used for vaccination and some other vials as well had been dispatched to Lucknow for pathological test and the inquiry team was recording the statement of the staff present at the time of vaccination.

He said district health officials had sent a report to top officials in Lucknow and another detailed report would be sent to the health directorate along with the pathological test report.

The name of the hospital where two innocent people died is Greenland Hospital. This hospital belongs to Dr. Sudhir Gupta of Gynecology Department of Gorakhpur BRD Medical College. Sudhir Gupta has registered the hospital in the name of his brother Dr. DK Gupta. However, Sudhir Gupta also used to do private practice here. The delivery of both the dead children was also done by Dr. Sudhir Gupta. At the same time, the father of the dead innocents has accused the doctor of giving the wrong injection.

First case

Saurabh Kumar Rai, a resident of Gagaha in Gorakhpur, got his 7-day-old child vaccinated on March 5 at the Greenland Hospital in Gorakhpur. Sourav says that his child’s body turned blue as soon as he was vaccinated and his health deteriorated. After which the family took the innocent from an ambulance to the Medical College of Gorakhpur, where the innocent was admitted to the Pediatrics Department. The innocent died during the treatment itself.

Second case

Shishant Charles, a resident of Basharatpur in Gorakhpur Shahpur area, has also filed a complaint against the doctor and Greenland Hospital by giving a complaint to the police. He also says that on the morning of March 5, his wife gave birth to a baby boy in Greenland Hospital. In the evening, the innocent was vaccinated in the hospital, after which his condition also deteriorated. Seeing the deteriorating condition, Dr. Sudhir Gupta referred the innocent to Gorakhpur BRD Medical College, where the innocent was admitted. The treatment of the innocent was going on there, then the innocent died on Sunday.
