New Delhi: From October 1 to October 31, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Call it ‘Beware of Breast’ Awareness Month if you will.

Fortis Gurugram has painted Qutub Minar in Pink color which will remain so from 7.30 PM to 10 PM today (October 5) and tomorrow to raise awareness around Breast Cancer which is inflicting women in large number, especially in metropolis of India. Pleasantly surprising is the good news that blind women are coming handy in making them see it early on. They are proving saving grace for women housing imperceptible cancer lump in their breasts

Khalnayak fame bollywood song चोली के पीछे क्या है is no more  a  mere risqué number with sex connotation. It has rather taken a life of its own and stands for a real and shiver giving question. This is the question that whole women kind is confronted with. There may really be a khalnayak (villain) lurking behind any woman’s blouse. It is now an asset up for grab by C word.

Catching just when it starts is must to avert death from breast cancer. Mamogaphy often proving wide of the mark is of course a matter of great concern but good news is that blind women can catch breast cancer lump more efficiently than Mammography as small as .5 ( point five cm) by their hands. Seeing this tactile sensitivity of blind women to cancer lump in breast, blind women with some NGOs are being trained for diagnosis of the breast cancer by hand. They are being employed in hospitals to help in diagnosing breast cancer.

Breast cancer is assuming alarming situations. There are some posh localities in Delhi where every other house has a breast cancer inmate. Catching it early is the need of the hour. A Boobment ( no offense intended) is a must to wary each and every woman to be beware of  the potential danger. It is an asset up for grab by C word. Cancer detected when it is full blown becomes a scourge not only for women but for their families. It not only kills patients but their families as well.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in Delhi, accounting for about a quarter of all cancers in women. The age adjusted incidence rate of breast cancer in Delhi is 41 per 100,000 women. Breast cancer accounts for about 28.6 % of all cancers in Delhi. The median age of breast cancer cases in Delhi is 50 years. The majority of breast cancer cases in Delhi are in the age group of 45-49 age groups. They say actual numbers must be much higher.
