More than 24,000 families in the Ajnala constituency have already been issued health insurance cards under the scheme, the MLA said.
Amritsar: Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana will extend health insurance to 65 lakh families across the state, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson in Punjab and Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has said. He made the statement while addressing beneficiaries of the scheme, The Tribune reported on Wednesday.
The state government had put its entire administrative machinery to work on preparing health insurance cards, Dhaliwal said at the event, describing the government’s efforts on the exercise as determined, according to the newspaper.
He described the health card as a significant move towards making good-quality healthcare facilities easier for people in the state to reach. According to Dhaliwal, the state government’s goal is that every family in Punjab is financially protected against medical expenses and that no resident is denied treatment because of a lack of money.
Dhaliwal claimed that the AAP government was the first in the country to offer free health insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh to every family without any discrimination, relieving households of the burden of expensive treatment, the report said.
At the function, the MLA instructed the AAP volunteers in attendance to treat help for beneficiaries as a priority, assisting them in getting their cards made, and to see to it that every eligible person standing in the queue was able to obtain a card, according to the report.
Card distribution is already under way at the constituency level, he said. More than 24,000 families in his Ajnala constituency have so far been issued health insurance cards under the scheme, Dhaliwal told the gathering.
The 65 lakh families and the cover of up to Rs 10 lakh per family were figures cited by Dhaliwal. The report did not give details of the insurer, the premium outlay or the network of hospitals attached to the scheme.
