Medical app by 3 Goan students wins second place at national level

PANAJI: E-Medikit, an Android app developed by three students of Goa University’s department of computer science and technology, won them recognition at the national-level hackathon for women by Ahmedabad University.

The team of the three MCA students — Alisha Lotlikar, Yogeeta Shirodker and Jolwina Fernandes —developed the app which sends reminder notifications to a patient or his/her family members at the prescribed time of taking medicines. It also sends notifications for doctor’s appointments. The app keeps an inventory of the medicines bought by an user and sends notifications in case any medicine is about to get over.

It enables digital storage and sharing of medical records/reports and provides integrated Google Map API to access nearby pharmacies and hospitals.

The ACM-W Third National Level Hackathon For Women in Computing was held last month at Ahmedabad University. The three students from Goa bagged the second place in the event, beating nearly 300 teams from across the country. The team also won Rs 15,000.

The event was held in three stages. The final stage was a 24-hour hackathon which was held at the Ahmedabad University. The students had to choose a theme, come up with a project proposal and implement the project in 24 hours.
