Kolhapur: A 21-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Kolhapur died of rabies three days after she completed the anti-rabies vaccination course.
The woman, Srishti Shinde, was bitten by a stray dog on February 3 on Bhausingji Road. She was on her way to Shaniwar Peth and had stopped on the road to answer a phone call when a stray dog bit her on her leg.
However, days later, she developed a fever and lost strength in both her legs.
Srishti Shinde was admitted to a private hospital where several tests were conducted and was put on a ventilator after her condition worsened. The test reports revealed that she was infected with rabies.
Shinde was later taken to a government hospital for further treatment, but she died the next day.
Srishti Shinde’s death has raised questions about how she contracted rabies despite completing the vaccine course. Her family is asking whether the vaccine was not kept at the required temperature.
