Unlicensed drugs worth Rs 1.20 crore seized in Patna

PATNA: Acting on a tip-off, the directorate of drugs control on Friday seized unlicensed medicines worth Rs1.20 crore from a shop-cum-godown in Narayan market on Govind Mitra Road, the hub of drug trade, in the state capital.

A seven-member team, led by Dr Sachchidanand Vikrant, assistant director, directorate of drugs control administration, raided the shop and seized drugs of various brands illegally stored for sale.
“It is illegal to trade such medicines without obtaining license from the government. All such medicines, including some common ones like paracetamol and cough syrups, were seized instantly,” said Vikrant. The details of seizure would be produced before a court for further legal action, he said.

Govind Mitra Road houses over 3,000 retail and wholesale shops and godowns of medicines, which are supplies all over the state.
