4 held in Etah with banned codeine syrup worth Rs 25L

Agra: Etah Police, along with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Agra zone, on Monday arrested four alleged drug traffickers and seized a huge consignment of banned codeine-based cough syrup valued around Rs 25 lakh.

The team conducted a raid at a warehouse in Naktai Kala village under Aliganj police station around 8:15 am. Police seized 47 cartons containing 5,640 bottles of the syrup, which falls under the narcotics category. Two vehicles, five mobile phones and Rs 3,900 in cash were also seized.

The arrested men are Pramod Kumar (45), Punjab Singh (42), Jitendra Singh (50), a govt servant, and Jitendra Singh (44), all residents of Etah district.

Etah SSP Shyam Narayan Singh said, “Pramod was allegedly handed over 60 cartons of codeine syrup in Varanasi and sell these to arrange money for legal expenses to get his brother Sanoj out of a jail in West Bengal.

Pramod, along with his associates, stored the consignment at a tobacco warehouse and had already sold 13 cartons before the raid.”
An FIR has been filed at Aliganj police station under NDPS Act and Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
