Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) recovers nitrazepam and alprazolam tablets sold on streets as ‘buttons’ during midnight raid
The Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) seized 9,800 nitrazepam and alprazolam tablets, valued at ₹2.53 crore, and arrested one person in Govandi during an operation between 10.40 p.m. on October 6 and 12.40 a.m. on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).
Acting on specific information, the Worli unit of the ANC searched a residence in Dr Zakir Hussain Nagar, Govandi, where a person was allegedly storing and selling the prescription tablets for recreational use. The tablets are allegedly sold on the street as “buttons”, according to police.

The police recovered 4,500 nitrazepam tablets bearing the brand name NITCOR-10, weighing around 2.475 kg and valued at ₹1.98 crore. They also seized 5,300 alprazolam tablets bearing the brand name PROCALM-1, weighing around 689 grams and valued at ₹55.12 lakh. The combined seizure was valued at ₹2.53 crore.
According to the police, the Worli ANC team had been gathering information about people allegedly involved in the purchase, sale, supply and storage of drugs in Mumbai when it received information about the sale of the tablets in Govandi. The information was verified before the operation was carried out.

One person was arrested in connection with the seizure. Police have not disclosed the identity of the accused. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the tablets, their intended recipients, and the wider distribution network allegedly involved in their sale.
A case has been registered under Section 8(c) read with Section 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
