NCB Busts Inter-State Drug Cartel In Pune; 5,970 Tablets Seized, Three Held

Pune : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) team, Mumbai has busted an interstate drug syndicate in Pune and arrested three persons. Around 5,900 tablets of a drug were seized from their possession.
The drug, Nitrazepam, is used for the short term treatment of insomnia. The accused have linkages in other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and few other states. They were involved in procuring the drug from Bihar, which is only meant for the medicinal purpose, and selling it in Pune as a narcotic substance.

The arrested have been identified as Sagar B, Swaraj B and Rajesh BC, all residents of Pune. According to the NCB, Sagar was responsible for getting the drug from Bihar. Rajesh, who owns a medical store in Pune, was responsible for its procurement while Swaraj B was given the task of peddling it in the city.

The NCB team after receiving a tip-off about the parcel containing the drug laid a trap and nabbed the accused from a courier firm’s office in the city. “Based on specific information gathered during the analysis, a parcel was intercepted at a courier centre in Pune, meant to be delivered to Sagar.

On May 2, NCB-Mumbai officials, who had reached the courier office in Pune, set a trap, waited for Sagar to arrive to receive the consignment. Soon, Sagar and his friend Rajesh arrived in the courier office. After they took the parcel, they were intercepted.

After checking the parcel, it was found to be containing a total of 5,970 tablets of Nitrazepam,” NCB officials said in a press statement. “When questioned, Sagar confessed that the consignment was meant for Pune-based Swaraj B. On the night of May 2, Swaraj was also apprehended from Pune. Swaraj stated that he was involved in peddling the pharmaceutical drug,” the NCB officials added.
