Mumbai: Police Arrest Fake Doctor Running Clinic For 7 Years

Mumbai: A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly posing as a doctor and running a clinic without proper academic certificates. The accused was identified as Altaf Hussain Khan, a resident of Govandi’s Bainganwadi.

According to the police, he was running the clinic for seven years in the Shivaji Nagar area despite having studied just till class 12. Acting on a tip-off, a team of cops from the crime branch unit 6 along with the medical officer of the M/East Ward (Govandi) showed up at Khan’s clinic while posing as patients on Saturday. When they reached, the accused was treating people and even prescribing them medicines. Khan specifically asked his patients to buy drugs from the Sai Sanjeevini medical and general store.

The team, including the health officer who is an MBBS doctor, narrated false disease symptoms to Khan and asked him to prescribe their medicines. He was caught red-handed by the team while taking a fee of Rs200. He wrote prescriptions without having required medical documents and certification from the Maharashtra Medical Council, said the police, adding that tablets, syrups, syringes, stethoscope and other medical apparatus were seized from the spot.

An FIR has been registered against Khan under sections 420 (cheating), and 419 (cheating by personation) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions 33 (prohibition of medical practice by a person not registered) and 36 (prohibition against the addition of any title, description [like Dr, MBBS, BAMS] to name of any person unless authorised to do so) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act.
