Saharanpur: City Residents Consumed 15 Lakh Antibiotic Tablets In Two Months

Saharanpur: When record dengue cases were reported in the district, people consumed a lot of medicines. Antibiotic medicine was also given along with paracetamol.

The surprising FACT is that within two months the city residents swallowed about 15 lakh antibiotic tablets. The highest demand was for ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin tablets. Maximum of more than 9.81 lakh antibiotic tablets were supplied to CHC-PHC from the District Drug Warehouse.

The trend of taking antibiotics has increased rapidly among people to cure the disease as soon as possible. This time the outbreak of dengue was the highest. People remained scared due to fear of dengue due to fever, cold, body ache, lack of platelets.

Doctors also prescribed medicines for pain, fever, multi vitamins, gas and increasing platelets along with antibiotics when suspicious symptoms were found. Demand for medicines increased in September.

According to the report of the District Drug Warehouse of Uttar Pradesh Medical Supplies Corporation, in October and November, 15,01,826 antibiotic tablets were distributed at SBD District Hospital, Government Medical College, TB Hospital and CHC-PHC, which is more than Rs 3.20 crore.

4,29,850 tablets arrived in SBD District Hospital, 90 thousand in Government Medical College and 9,81,976 in CHC-PHC.

In October and November, more than 15 lakh tablets of antibiotics were distributed from the District Drug Warehouse to government hospitals. Most of the antibiotics went to CHC-PHC. Ciprofloxacin and Ofloxacin tablets were in highest demand. – Nirbhay Jain, in-charge, District Drug Warehouse
