Debar Firm That Runs CCTVs At JK Lon Hosp: Health Dept Panel

Jaipur: The health department’s committee investigating the plasma theft at JK Lon Hospital revealed that 2,300 units of plasma are missing. The committee recommended debarring and blacklisting the firm responsible for installing and ensuring the functioning of CCTV cameras.

The committee suspects that the missing plasma units were stolen by lab technician, identified as Krishna Kant Kataria, who was apprehended for allegedly stealing plasma from the blood bank at JK Lon Hospital.

The committee checked the records of the past five years of the blood bank and found that 2,300 units of plasma were missing. The committee conducted an audit of the blood bank.

In the report, it was mentioned that the cost of 2,300 units of plasma is around Rs 14 lakh. It has recommended in the report that the cost of the plasma should be recovered from the accused.

The committee found excess units of plasma in a blood bank of a private hospital. Now, the health department has served a notice to the private hospital to explain where it got the excess plasma units.

The committee raised serious concerns about the security and integrity of the blood bank at JK Lon Hospital in its report. CCTVs were not found to be functioning.

Following the theft incident, the hospital administration has taken steps to curb such incidents. “We have formed a committee to ensure proper functioning of the blood bank. Besides, we have issued directions to keep all the CCTVs functioning in the hospital. Security has also been tightened in the blood bank,” Dr Kailash Meena, medical superintendent of JK Lon Hospital, told TOI.

To prevent such incidents, the health department will constitute a blood transfusion services unit that will be established under the director of public health to ensure the smooth operation of blood banks in the state.
