Orthopaedic Implants Worth Rs 70L Seized By FDA

Nagpur: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) team seized orthopaedic implants worth around Rs 70 lakh from a stockist during a raid at Dhantoli last week. The implants, mostly imported, were stocked without licences.

The team, under supervision of FDA joint commissioner (drug), Viraj Paunikar, served a notice to the stockist to furnish bills and invoices within three days.

The team comprising drug inspectors Neeraj Lohkare, Prashant Ramteke, Manish Chaudhuri and Shehnaz Taji acted on a tip-off and took action.

“If the stockist provides us bills and invoices, only then the seized materials would be considered legally procured items, else there he would be prosecuted for the irregularity,” said an official adding most of the seized implants were meant to be sent to different private hospitals.
