AGTF arrests man accused of smuggling drugs into USA by concealing them in granite lamps

Jaipur: In a major operation, the Rajasthan Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has arrested a criminal with a 20,000 rupee reward on his head, linked to an international drug trafficking network and eluding the Delhi Police for the past three years.

The accused, Ajay Singh Shekhawat, son of Ajit Singh, a resident of Ladpur, Tehsil Khandela, Sikar, had been absconding in the Vidyadhar Nagar police station area to avoid arrest in an NDPS Act case. To search for the accused, an AGTF team, under the direction of Additional Director General of Police Dinesh MN, under the supervision of DIG Yogesh Yadav and led by Additional Superintendent of Police Siddhant Sharma, was dispatched to conduct surveillance on gangsters and drug traffickers.

Based on intelligence from Constables Gopal Dhabai and Vijay Singh, Inspector Ram Singh Nathawat and his team detained the accused Ajay Singh Shekhawat on Thursday night and handed him over to the Vidyadhar Nagar police station. Delhi Police was subsequently informed and he was handed over for further investigation.

Smuggling was done by hiding it in marble lamps

ADG Dinesh MN stated that the arrested accused, Ajay Singh Shekhawat, and his accomplice used a unique method of drug trafficking. The accused concealed the drugs in marble lamps in Palsana, Sikar district, and then sent them via courier to Delhi, from where they were supplied to the USA and other foreign countries. The smuggler had been absconding for more than three years.

The matter is related to the old action of NCB

Ajay Shekhawat’s arrest is linked to a major operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau’s Delhi Zonal Unit on July 13, 2022. At that time, the NCB searched a suspicious parcel at a courier company. The search revealed a hollow granite marble lamp inside the parcel. Inside the lamp were strips of medication wrapped in colored threads. These were banned Alprazolam tablets. Upon counting, a total of 13,770 tablets were recovered, weighing an estimated 1.515 kilograms. This consignment was being sent by Rahul Kumawat of Sikar to Deepak Patel in the USA.
