Pending applications to raise intake in existing postgraduate courses or to start new ones are not part of the list and will be added only once approved, the commission said.
New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) on Tuesday published the postgraduate (PG) medical seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic year, setting out the approved annual intake that will go into NEET PG 2026 counselling, according to The Indian Express.
The matrix names each medical college and institution, the PG courses it runs and the intake capacity cleared by MARB, the commission said in a press note. Only courses and seats already approved by the board for the coming counselling cycle have been included.
Requests for higher intake in existing PG courses, and applications for permission to begin new PG courses in 2026-27, are not reflected in the current version. The NMC said any courses or seats approved later will be added to a revised matrix on its official website, and that the list may also change following decisions by MARB or other authorised bodies.
Wherever applicable, the updated matrix will be used by the central counselling committee as well as state and Union Territory counselling committees during PG medical admissions this year, the regulator said.
The commission directed all medical colleges and institutions to admit students strictly within the number of PG seats sanctioned by MARB and shown in the latest matrix. Taking in students above the approved capacity would breach the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed under it, and colleges that do so could face regulatory and penal action under the applicable law, the NMC said.
The regulator also asked medical colleges, institutions and counselling committees to examine the published matrix carefully and flag any discrepancy, error, omission or inconsistency to MARB without delay. The matrix is the reference document for PG admissions in the current cycle, and colleges are bound by the intake figures it records, the NMC said.
