Fake beauty products with ₹6.9L face value seized from two shops; owners arrested

Ahmedabad: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the city police seized 1,221 suspected counterfeit L’Oréal cosmetic products worth Rs 6.9 lakh from two beauty stores on Gheekanta Road and arrested their proprietors on Thursday night.

The seized stock includes packaged shampoos, serums, creams and hair colour. The products were allegedly stored for retail sale without supporting bills or documents establishing their authenticity.

Acting on information from an authorised L’Oréal representative, SOG personnel, accompanied by company officials, raided My Beauty Centre and Lakshmi Beauty Shop at around 11.45pm on Thursday.

Police arrested Yash Thakkar (30), a Bopal resident, and Rishabh Agrawal (29), who lives in Bapunagar. Officials said the duo had allegedly stocked the counterfeit cosmetics for sale to customers.

According to the police complaint, the stock had been sourced from suppliers in RK Beauty in Mumbai’s Crawford Market and Navya Enterprises in Naranpura. Further details about the suppliers are being investigated. A case was registered at the Detection of Crime Branch police station under the Copyright Act, 1957.
