Pharma unit owner among 6 held

Phagwara: Owner of a pharmaceutical unit has been arrested for not having proper bills for the raw material for manufacturing psychotropic drugs. The premises of Long Life Pharmaceuticals was raided by a team of police led by Kapurthala DSP (Investigation) Manpreet Singh Dhillon.

Dhillon said that they called the district drug controller, Kapurthala, to the premises, who found that the factory had a registered licence to manufacture the drugs but the factory owner had no official record for the raw materials procured, the stock and sale of the medicines, etc. Moreover, many of the medicines were in loose packs with no labels for identification.

The police in the presence of the drug inspector seized all psychotropic substance and medicines and registered a case under Sections 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act and sealed the factory under Section 25 of the NDPS Act against factory owner Mandeep Singh, chemists Chand Kumar and Deepak Kalogia and three other workers. Over 4.5 lakh tablets of psychotropic drugs were seized along with raw material weighing over 14kg.
