Swine Flu cases creating space issues at Gandhi hospitals

H1N1 flu named as swine flu as it caught the people who were in the direct contact with pigs. But before several years it is also concluded that the virus emerged that spread among people who hadn’t been near pigs. This infection is the very contagious respiratory disease caused by one of many Influenza A viruses.

Due to the increasing number of swine flu patients in the Hyderabad, the city’s Gandhi hospital facing space crunch. According to the hospital insiders, the issue becomes severe as a number of patients are coming out of private facilities, due to their inability to afford private hospital fees.

Patients from private hospitals get referred to Gandhi hospital and this added to the burden of the hospital. H1N1(swine flu) infection cases keep on rising in the state and the disaster ward completely occupied with the infected patients who have tested positive for H1N1. The respiratory ward, that is used for suspected swine flu patients, had only 9 beds available.

Nagalakshmi, a Swine flu infected patient referred to Gandhi hospital as her family is not able to deal with the spiraling costs at a private hospital.

Health authorities are alarmed with the increases cases of H1N1 over the last 15 days. To handle the further increased cases of swine flu infection, hospitals are directed to inspect and keep isolation wards ready for housing swine flu patients.

Other hospitals are also directed to refer patients with the highest level of risk to Gandhi Hospital.
