New Delhi: Ishi Khosla, renowned clinical dietician and nutritionist, is deeply invested in promoting millets as super foods of India and fully committed to making them centre of plate to save the worsening gut health which is be all and end all of wellness. In trying to mainstream millets, Mrs Khosla, the Presiding Deity of gut health, has found a buddy in Meenakshi Lekhi, former Union Minister of State for external Affairs and Culture. At the behest of and constant nudging by Mrs Khosla, Mrs lekhi is now a total convert to millets from her typical Punjabi palate relishing ‘tanddori roti’, ‘parantha’ and ‘makke ki roti’ and is well on her way to complete rejuvenation of her gut health. Mrs Lekhi has totally exterminated wheat from her scheme of eating.
Now Mrs Lekhi lives and breathes millets and is a great force in Mrs Ishi Khosla’s Mera Millet Magic mission. Mrs lekhi indeed packs a punch in her Millet mission. In a conference themed around millets and gut health in India International Centre (IIC) not long ago (on July 6 to be precise), Mrs Lekhi, though spoke at length on millets and its importance for gut health, was in a celebratory mood because the very day she had first time achieved HbA1c test reading of 4.1. And voila! She had entered non diabetic region as never before. She told the select audience how her health had deteriorated to the extent of being pre diabetic, her cholesterol level had increased to intimidating level, how her children in home sent her to Ishi Aunty, how Ishi scolded her to be a good gourmet and how she fought to shift to millets and how health turnaround happened to her. Her children and other family members referred to PM Modi, her icon, to persuade her to take care of her health and go to Ishi Khosla to hear her millet pep talk.
Not to stress the obvious, Ishi Khosla was Mrs Lekhi’s lawyer in changing her food habits. Mrs Khosla has brought about such changes in thousands of people and restored their health. According to her, all your diseases originate in your gut and you can defeat them only inside gut. She has been the exterminator of wheat, the villain for gut health, from the lives of many a people. Her book, 4- G Code to Good Health is being looked at as Geeta or say Bible if you will, of gut health. The book’s cover is inscribed with her advice –‘Do not Diet, Know, What is Right for your body’. This book, they say, will go a long way in changing what people eat as large numbers of people are chewing her best seller book.
Mrs Khosla is at the vanguard of Millet movement in the country and is a ‘dyed in wool’ fan of PM Modi for his immense contribution to gut health by establishing millets ( Shree Anna) in the world as super foods. She says – grain changer is the game changer. Mrs Lekhi and Mrs Khosla are the greatest torchbearers of Millet movement unveiled by PM Modi.
Mera Millet Magic, launched during the International Year of Millets in 2023, by the Food and Agriculture Organization, aims to accelerate progress on six UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative promotes the pledge, “Eat One Millet Meal Each Day,” linking this nutritious superfood to India’s rich art, culture, and culinary heritage.
The Mera Millet Magic Programme in India is initiated by Ishi Khosla, Clinical Nutritionist and Founder Celiac Society of India; Asha Chandra, a social entrepreneur with advertising and film experience professional and Founder AC Welfare Consultancy; and Bharat Gauba, Founder President Shoobh Group Welfare Society that links art to all projects. Marginalized girl dancers groomed by Servam Foundation add great value to the millet promotion programs of Mrs Khosla.
