Chemist shop sealed for selling abortion medication without prescription

Indore: The drug administration department on Tuesday sealed a chemist shop, located opposite MY Hospital in Indore, for selling abortion medication without doctor’s prescription.

A joint team of drug inspectors and Sanyogitaganj police raided the medical store, Kartik Chemist and confirmed the illegal sale of ‘Contra Kit’ abortion pills without a medical prescription, after which officials sealed the premises.

The raid was part of an ongoing district-wide inspection campaign targeting pharmacy compliance. Out of 13 medical stores inspected, officials have issued show-cause notices to six establishments on finding various operational irregularities.

Department officials said that the checks would continue across the district. The inspections focus on enforcing mandatory presence of qualified pharmacists, monitoring sale of narcotic-category drugs, and regulating prescription requirements for controlled medical products.

“Strict legal measures will be taken against any establishment found selling restricted drugs without valid authorization” drug controller Manoj Pushp said.
