Patients for Patient Safety Foundation (PFPSF) Partners with CAHO to RollOut an Excellence Program
New Delhi: Thanks to some well-meaning organizations, patients are going to be lord of all they survey in Indian hospitals in times to come. Excellence will be judged on the basis of how friendly accredited hospitals are with patients. Patients for Patient Safety Foundation (PFPSF) has partnered with CAHO to rollout an Excellence Program to judge them on the new yardstick. CAHO is the name of the revolution that is catching up fast in India for ensuring patients’ safety and improving quality of care . Very Achhe Din for patients are imminent. The teaser might be like CAHO NA PATIENTS SE PYAAR HAI
The Patients for Patient Safety Foundation (PFPSF) has launched the Patient Friendly Hospitals Excellence Program to make patient experience, transparent communication, and trust central to healthcare delivery. To scale this movement across the country, PFPSF is partnering with Consortium of Accredited Hospital Organizations (CAHO) to roll out the initiative across CAHO’s extensive network of member hospitals.
Standard accreditation protocols focus on clinical excellence, and the Patient Friendly Hospitals (PFH) program builds upon these standards by emphasizing the practical and behavioral aspects of care delivery that directly touch patients. It defines a comprehensive framework outlining how leadership, infrastructure, staff behavior, patient education, and real-time patient insights work together across the care continuum to achieve safer health outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.
The core principle of the program is transforming patients from mere recipients of care into active partners in their own healthcare journey. This will help create an environment where patients are heard, informed, and respected. Prevents avoidable misunderstanding, elevates safety standards, and builds lasting trust.
The program was developed after extensive discussions with the patient community and healthcare providers, including clinicians and administrative staff, and it also focuses on measurable outcomes. Participating hospitals that successfully demonstrate leadership in patient-centered care will receive formal excellence recognition at CAHOCON 2027.
‘Hospitals work tirelessly on safety protocols, but managing high, diverse patient volumes remains a complex challenge. This program integrates seamlessly into existing workflows, serving as both a diagnostic tool and an outcome measure to continuously elevate patient trust and care quality.’— Prof. Nadira Chaturvedi, Co-Chairperson, Patients for Patient Safety Foundation
‘Patient safety is not only about preventing clinical errors; it is also about ensuring that patients are informed, heard, and treated with dignity. A truly safe hospital empowers patients as active partners in their care journey.’-Says Som Mittal, Chairperson, Patients for Patient Safety Foundation
‘Quality healthcare must be experienced by the patient, not merely measured by internal systems. CAHO is pleased to collaborate with PFPSF to offer our network a practical framework that translates accreditation standards into empathetic, patient-centered behaviors.’says Dr. Lallu Joseph, President, CAHO
