Mumbai: The Maharashtra Nodal Cyber Police have registered an FIR against 22 foreign medical graduates for allegedly uploading fake and suspicious documents on Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) portal to obtain temporary registration despite not clearing the mandatory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
TOI reported this in its edition dated August 29 in a report titled, ‘MMC regn without test: 30 fgn degree holders face probe’.
According to the complaint filed by MMC registrar Rakesh Waghmare, the issue came to light on August 7, when MMC computer operator Gauri Bhosale and senior clerk Dhanashree Patiya noticed suspicious documents in the online profiles of some foreign medical graduates. The candidates had reportedly obtained their medical degrees from foreign countries, but had not cleared the FMGE conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, which is mandatory for foreign medical graduates seeking registration to practise medicine in India.
Waghmare checked the login profiles of the candidates who had failed to clear the FMGE and were temporarily registered on the council’s online portal. He allegedly found fake and suspicious documents uploaded in the profiles of 22 candidates.
Waghmare informed MMC administrator Dr Vinky Rughwani, who directed him to approach the cyber police. The complaint alleged that the accused candidates created or uploaded forged and suspicious documents through the FMG council’s online portal with the intention of securing registration.
Waghmare also submitted the documents and other material available with the council to the investigating agency.
The Maharashtra Medical Council is a statutory body established under the Maharashtra Medical Council Act, 1965, and is responsible for registration of medical professionals in the state.
The Nodal Cyber Police Station is investigating the alleged forgery, unauthorised access and use of the online registration system.
