Gang involved in illegal drug trade busted; 11 arrested

Varanasi: In a joint operation of SWAT Surveillance and Kotwali police, a gang involved in illegal drug trade was busted in Ghazipur on Sunday night. As many as 11 members of the gang were arrested and medicines, injections and cash was recovered from them.

Ghazipur SP Omvir Singh said that acting on a tip off, the joint team conducted a raid at Mahuabagh in Kotwali police station area around 10:40pm on Sunday.While arresting the 11 members of the gang, the police also recovered 210 pieces of intoxicating Bupreraz (Buprenorphine) injection each of 2 ml ampoule, 30 vials of anvil injection, each 10 ml, 560 pieces of needles and 180 pieces of syringes. They were booked under the sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and legal action is being taken. During interrogation, the arrested persons said that they buy drugs and injections from Bihar at cheap prices and sell them to drug addicts at higher prices.

The arrested persons were identified as Dhirendra Tripathi, Chhatthu Ram, Sonu Paswan, Ajay Kumar Chaubey, Satya Dome, Rohit, Sujit Kumar, Saddam, Rajesh, Sheru and Santlal, all natives of the different areas of Ghazipur district.
Dhirendra, a resident of Mahuabagh, also has a criminal history at the Kotwali police station with a case lodged against him under sections 323, 376, 427, 452, 504, 506 of IPC.
