Chandra urged greater public acceptance of bowel cancer screening programmes, stressing their life-saving potential.
She was briefed on the particularly low uptake of screening tests within Asian communities in the UK. In response, the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) — the country’s foremost body of colorectal specialists — has enlisted her support to help raise awareness and improve screening participation in these communities.
Chandra, who has previously served as Brand Ambassador for Teenage Cancer Trust USA and multiple cancer societies in India, spoke movingly about her personal motivation. “I lost my father to cancer and I can understand how deeply the family suffers,” she told delegates.
