Spurious Drugs Worth Rs 23L Seized

Cuttack : In the state-wide drive against spurious drugs, the enforcement team of the Drug Control Administration seized spurious drugs from two warehouses in Cuttack and Bargarh.

Responding to queries from the media, Secretary Health & Family Welfare Shalini Pandit said that test reports of the drugs and other details were sought from the firms involved in the manufacture of suspected drugs.

Upon scrutinizing the genuineness of the information obtained from them, 11 types of suspected medicines were seized from the MH Pharmaceutical Store located in the Puri Ghat area of Cuttack city.

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be ₹23.23 lakh. These drugs were found to have come from the state of Uttar Pradesh.

That apart, suspicious drugs have also been seized from Ashok Medical Store in Bargarh.

The drugs seized from Ashok Medical Store were already segregated on suspicious grounds and their sale was stopped.

Pandit further said that the enforcement team of Odisha has been directed to coordinate with the enforcement mechanism of the States from which the drugs were coming from.

This will stop the import and supply of spurious drugs, and legal action can be expedited against the manufacturers of spurious drugs.

Pandit directed drug enforcement teams for intensifying checking of drugs available in the market and issue orders to stop the sale as soon as any kind of suspicious activity comes to the fore.
