‘Made in India’ Surgical Robot does a Trailblazer between India & France
France/ India: Two continents as it were shrunk to an operation theatre, thanks to Made in India surgical robot SSI Mantra. The distance of 10, 000 Km was just a number for intercontinental tele- surgery between India & France. Two flawless surgeries performed across such astronomical distance is stuff of wizardry- right away a surgical feat to land Guinness book of World Record. Such pushing of boundaries by best in class surgical robot SSI Mantra is shattering expectations in the realm of global surgical robotics.
SSIMantra is springing surprises on a tort- all being global firsts. First, the distance of tele-surgery was 1700 between Gurugram and Bangalore, then 900 Km between Gurugram and Indore and now 10, 000 Km between two continents in one fell swoop- This last one really has robotic surgeons of the world in thrall and utter amazement! Impeccable Tele surgeries were done as if it were walk in the Park between India and France. What next? As SSInnovations, the maker of SSI Mantra, is keeping cards close to its chest, keeping fingers crossed is the only option.
In a momentous leap forward for global medical collaboration and surgical innovation, SS Innovations International, Inc. has achieved a historic milestone at the Annual Conference of the Society of Robotic Surgery (SRS) in Strasbourg, France, with the successful completion of two complex intercontinental robotic telesurgeries using the indigenously developed SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System. By harnessing advanced technology, SSII is compressing the barriers of time and distance, making surgical care more accessible to patients regardless of geography and enabling expert surgeons to operate remotely with precision, reshaping the future of global healthcare delivery.
The procedures remotely connected surgical teams across nearly 10,000 kilometres, linking the Institut de recherchecontre les cancers de l’appareildigestif (IRCAD) Headquarters in Strasbourg, France, to the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) and the IRCAD National Centre in Indore, India, showcasing the SSI Mantra’s extraordinary ability to deliver high-precision surgical care across continents.
The first, a gastric bypass, was performed by Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President of IRCAD India and Founder of Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, Indore, in just over 44 minutes, with zero complications, underscoring the system’s unmatched stability, precision, and latency-free operation.
The second procedure, a robotic atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, was performed by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations International, Inc. The live telesurgery was moderated by globally renowned robotic cardiac surgeon Dr. Husam H. Balkhy, M.D., President of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS) and Professor of Surgery and Director of Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine.
Patient-side support in Indore was seamlessly coordinated by Dr. Lalit Malik, Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Manipal Hospital, Jaipur; Dr. Ram Krishna Shukla, Cardiologist, and Dr. BipinArya, Anesthesiologist, both from Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS), Indore, along with the dedicated teams from SSII and SAIMS.
The surgery was completed without any technical issues – with imperceptible latency, flawless precision, and seamless robotic control -demonstrating the exceptional performance of the SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System and its revolutionary telesurgery architecture.
Speaking on this achievement, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, said, “I would This historic achievement not only demonstrates the advanced capabilities of our SSI Mantra 3 surgical robotic system but also further paves the way for redefining and democratizing global delivery of complex cardiac care, especially in regions with limited access to surgical expertise.” Dr. Mohit Bhandari added, “Performing a complex gastric bypass remotely, across continents, marks a transformative moment in surgical science. ”
To date, 35 telesurgeries – including 10 cardiac cases, and over 250 cardiac procedures have been successfully completed using the SSI Mantra system. No wonder that SS Innovations International is the only surgical robotics company to have received regulatory approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for both tele-proctoring and telesurgery in India.
