30 Held For Running Illegal Cough Syrup Racket In Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh : A total of 30 drug dealers were reportedly arrested for their alleged involvement in smuggling of illegal cough syrup in Odisha’s Bargarh district.

Sources said the racketeers nabbed from different parts of the district during a special drive launched by the Bargarh Superintendent of Police to curb drug and illegal cough syrup trade in the region.

Raids were carried out at several places including Padampur, Jagdalpur, Paikmal, Buden, Gaisilet and Melchamunda and the peddlers were held.

Further investigation is in progress and the arrested persons are being interrogated to gather more information about the racket, sources said.

Earlier, over 38 people were arrested in Balangir district after busting an inter-state cough syrup smuggling racket under a special operation.

Over 12,960 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 35 lakh, a country-made pistol, three cars, two motorcycles, 17 mobile phones, and other materials had been seized from them.
