3,850 Bottles Of Cough Syrup Seized At ISBT, Three Arrested

GUWAHATI:  At the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati, a significant operation resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of intoxicating cough syrup. The confiscation was made from a super bus bearing registration number AR02A3487.

Reports claim that the cough syrup was transported from Siliguri to ISBT, concealed inside a consignment of ghee, with a fake challan. Based on a specific tip-off, the Garchuk police, ISBT police and Azara police carried out a joint operation.

The bus was carrying 50 cartons containing a total of 3,850 bottles of cough syrup. The driver and handymen of the bus were arrested. The arrested individuals have been identified as Golap Hussain, Hari Prasad Chettri, and Jyotish Basumatary. Further investigation is underway.

In another similar operation, Assam police seized over 2,300 bottles of banned cough syrup and 18 kilograms of Yaba tablets in a raid that was conducted earlier in January in a godown in Guwahati’s Azara.

As per reports, the godown, which operated as a courier service on the outside, was discovered to be a smuggling hub. The godown is reported to be located near GIMT University. The contraband was received from Patna and was en route for Shillong, Meghalaya.
