Assam: Drugs Worth Rs 10 Crores Seized By Police

Guwahati : Continuing the war on drugs, the Assam Police, on April 11, seized a large number of contraband drugs worth Rs 10 crore and arrested two persons in the Cachar district. Based on secret information, Cachar police conducted a special operation in the Bagador area of Silchar City. They recovered 50 soap cases suspected to be Heroin and 30,000 Yaba tablets, and some cash.

Police arrested two drug peddlers, namely Rohimuddin and Haseena Begum. Both are husband and wife and have been involved in drug peddling for a long time. Superintendent of Police of Cachar district Numal Mahatta said that the market value of the seized Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) material is estimated at Rs 10 crores.

The consignment of the narcotics substance is suspected to be smuggled from Churachandpur of Manipur to Assam, Superintendent of police (SP) Mahatta added. On the other hand, Guwahati city Police on April 12, morning seized narcotics worth Rs 8 lakhs from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in the Gorchuk area of the city. On specific information, Guwahati Police conducted an operation in the ISBT and seized at least ten soap packs carrying narcotics.

Arrested drug peddlers were carrying the narcotics from Silchar to Barpeta district in a public transport bus and were apprehended at ISBT. Arrested peddlers are Amir Ali, Firoz Ali and Habibur Rahman.

On April 10, Karimganj district police seized a large quantity of narcotics substances and apprehended one person Amir Hamza for his involvement in drug peddling. During a search operation in Badarpur and Patharkandi, the police seized around 22,000 Yaba tablets and 853 bottles of phensedyl cough syrup.
