Career in Pharmaceutical Journalism

A Graduate degree in Pharmacy now needs a re-look in the light of prevailing unemployment and limited opportunities in pharmaceutical’s firms. Mushroom growth of Pharmacy institutions has further worsened the job scenario. In this direction Pharmaceutical Journalism would offer an excellent opportunity to disseminate information about new drugs, banned drugs, new diagnostic techniques, new surgical procedures and medicines, under clinical trials about which a lay man is totally unawares. We have specialists in all walks of professions to impart expertise for benefit of the society, e.g. An ophthalmologist is approached for eye disorders. On similar lines, in the field of Journalism, we have renowned sports persons specially appointed for coverage of news items related to sports. However, there are no experts for covering news-items related to health issues. A Pharmaceutical journalist can fill this gap well and provide all information in a lucid language regarding all developments in medical field. A common man is always curious to know about new drug discoveries. Due to lack of training in pharmaceutical field, big inventions and drug up-dates go unnoticed. Because, half information about medicines minor errors can produce a big damage, since this is life-line issue. If budding pharmacists take up Pharmaceutical Journalism seriously and introduce a news-column like health tips or Ask your Pharmacist or Medicines to be avoided would go a long way in improving the health of the society at local level and ultimately our nation in addition to providing a big career to Pharmacy Graduates.
