JP Nadda Launches NMR Portal For Registering All MBBS Doctors

New Delhi: Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, officially launched the National Medical Register (NMR) Portal of the National Medical Commission (NMC) today. The NMR Portal is designed for the registration of all eligible MBBS doctors in India, and was inaugurated in the presence of Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel, and virtually joined by Union MoS for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav.

The NMR Portal, mandated under Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019, will serve as a comprehensive electronic database for allopathic (MBBS) doctors. It will link doctor registrations with their Aadhaar IDs, ensuring the authenticity of the information.

During the launch, Shri Nadda praised the NMC and National Health Authority (NHA) for their efforts in creating this dynamic database. He emphasized that the Prime Minister’s vision of a digitally advanced India includes strengthening the digital healthcare ecosystem. Nadda highlighted that the National Medical Register will continuously improve registration processes, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery in India.

Shri Nadda also noted the significant role of State Medical Councils (SMCs) in the NMR’s development and maintenance, urging them to expedite the registration process. He mentioned that similar registers for paramedics and other healthcare professionals are also being considered.

Smt. Anupriya Patel described the launch of the NMR as a “momentous occasion,” emphasizing the importance of authentic and updated data on doctors. She noted that the NMR will provide a consolidated, easily accessible database that supports the creation of a robust digital health ecosystem.

Shri Prataprao Jadhav underscored the NMR’s role in ensuring transparent and verified data on doctors, which will contribute to greater trust and quality in the healthcare system. He reiterated the government’s commitment to “Reform, Perform, and Transform” in healthcare.

Union Health Secretary Shri Apurva Chandra highlighted that the NMR will address the previous lack of comprehensive data on doctors, including those who have left the country or lost their licenses. The NMR will be integrated into the Healthcare Professional Registry under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

The event was attended by several senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Medical Commission, and National Health Authority, with virtual participation from representatives of State Medical Councils.
