Mumbai: The Customs officials on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly exporting pharmaceutical drugs abroad. The agency has seized several tablets of Tramadol, Alprazolam, Diazepam, Zolpidem and Nitrazepam. The agency has also identified the UK based receiver of the said consignment. Those arrested have been identified as Rajasthan resident P. Kumar and Virar resident U. Kumar.
According to the Customs sources, on 02.02.2025, while doing routine examination of export parcels at the International Courier Terminal at the Airport, one export parcel which was declared as Multivitamin and Multiminerals tablets was checked. While the boxes contained label of Multivitamin and Multiminerals tablets when they were opened, strips of tablets labeled as “Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets U.S.P Trreken-100” were found inside.
The said parcel was being exported by a Virar based company of P. Kumar. The said parcel was examined by Customs officers which resulted in recovery of 1227 strips having 10 tablets in each strip which were later seized.
Thereafter, team of Customs officers went to search the shop premises Virar based companies of P. Kumar and U. Kumar on 03.04.2025 and totally seized 12270 tablets of tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets U.S.P. Treken-100, 710 tablets LOR-2 (Lorazepam Tablets IP 2mg). 75 tablets of RLAM-1 (Alprazolam Tablets IP Img). 14130 tablets of ALPZ-1, 20400 tablets of Alpacure 1 mg. 17860 tablets of Alpraem 1, 19305 tablets of RLAM-1, 28910 tablets of Dispam-10, 16200 tablets of Zoltrate-10, 7140 tablets of Trohma-100 SR, 1140 capsules of Treken 50, 210 tablets of Treken 100, 320 tablets of Elipam 10, 20 tablets of Nitrazepam which is covered under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
“In his statement to the Customs, P. Kumar stated that he was not aware about the content of the parcel. He also said that he came to know from U. Kumar that he placed medicine namely tramadol Hydrochloride in the parcel purported to be Narcotic and Psychotropic substance covered under NDPS Act,” said a Customs official.
He added, “U. Kumar in his statement said that he was aware about the contents of the parcel and that he packed, placed the said parcel containing Tramadol Hydrochloride in his office. He also said that he was aware that the contents of said parcel are of psychotropic in nature; that he prepared all required export documents at his office; that he knowingly exported such medicines to UK in past also. U. Kumar also said that one Imran is foreign based buyer who was in contact with him for this present shipment and past exports.”
