Inaugural Conference of ‘Critical Nephrology Society of India’ (CNSI) puts Best Foot Forward

Dr D S Rana, Chairman, Sir Ganga Ram Trust Society was Cynosure of all Eyes

New Delhi: Inaugural Conference of Critical Nephrology Society of India CNSICON 26 under the aegis of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital proved a huge draw of nephrologists from home and abroad which underlined the urgent need of such organization to optimize renal care in India and bring down mortality due to kidney ailments. Dr D S Rana, Chairman, Sir Ganga Ram Trust Society and a globally renowned nephrologist was cynosure of all eyes in the conference and citation read in his honor most deservedly listed his attributes.

The Critical Nephrology Society of India (CNSI) marked a historic milestone with the successful inauguration of its first annual conference, CNSICON ’26, held at Shangri-La Eros. The event brought together leading nephrologists, intensivists, and healthcare professionals from across the country, fostering a collaborative platform for advancing critical nephrology care in India. The prestigious conference was inaugurated under the esteemed guidance of Padma Shri Dr. (Prof.) D. S. Rana, Chief Patron, whose presence added immense value and inspiration to the occasion.

In his address, Dr. D. S. Rana emphasized the growing need for specialized care in critically ill kidney patients and highlighted the importance of innovation, research, and multidisciplinary collaboration in improving patient outcomes.“The burden of kidney-related critical illnesses is steadily rising in India. Platforms like CNSICON are essential to bring together expertise, encourage research, and strengthen clinical practices to deliver better and timely care to patients,” said Dr. Rana.

Dr. (Prof.) Ajay Swaroop, Chairman, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram and Chief Guest of the conference said without mincing words, ‘Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is lucky to have a person like Dr Rana joining it when we knew little about the hospital.’ Declaring Conference a super success under the leadership of Dr (Prof.) A K Bhalla, distinguished nephrologist and Chairperson of Department of Nephrology at Sir Ganga Ram, Dr Swaroop said, ‘Nephrology Department at Sir Ganga Ram is an ace department at the moment and occupies highest position in India so far as clinical care and academics is concerned. Sir Ganga Ram hospital’s Nephrology and Transplant Department is pioneer. It is a great privilege and honor for me to be in Sir Ganga Ram. Incidentally, Dr A K Bhalla was also given Life Time Achievement Award in the conference.   

Dr Swaroop also highlighted the importance of integrated healthcare systems in managing critically ill patients, saying, ‘Critical care today demands a seamless integration of multiple specialties. Nephrology plays a pivotal role in intensive care units, and forums like CNSICON help in building stronger clinical frameworks and knowledge-sharing ecosystems that ultimately benefit patient care.”

Dr. (Prof.) Jayashree Sood, Guest of Honour, called Dr D S Rana, the architect of nephrology critical care in India and spoke about the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous learning. She said, “The future of critical care lies in collaboration and continuous upskilling. Bringing together experts from different domains allows us to create more effective, patient-centric treatment protocols, especially in complex cases involving renal complications.”

Dr. Manish Malik, Organising Chairman of CNSICON ’26, expressed his vision for the conference, stating:”CNSICON ’26 marks the beginning of a collaborative journey to strengthen critical nephrology practices in India. Through this initiative, we aim to bring together leading minds to address the growing burden of kidney-related critical illnesses.”

The conference also included detailed talks about new developments in critical care nephrology, teamwork across different medical fields, new ideas in dialysis and kidney support treatments, and plans for future training programs and academic partnerships.
