Crackdown on Illegal Sale of Mephentermine Sulphate Injections in Warangal Gyms

Warangal: In a decisive move against the illegal sale and abuse of prescription drugs in the fitness community, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized stocks of Mephentermine Sulphate Injections from an unlicensed premises in Charbouli, Warangal. The operation, conducted on June 9th, was based on intelligence provided by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Warangal Police.

Officials from the DCA Warangal Zone raided the residence of Mohammed Abdul Sohaib (H. No. 10-9-175/1, Charbouli, Warangal), where they discovered 38 vials of TERMIN Injections (Mephentermine Sulphate Injections IP 30 mg/ml) illegally stocked and sold to gym-goers. These injections, intended for medical use under strict supervision, were being supplied for abuse in bodybuilding circles to enhance endurance and physical performance.

Mephentermine Sulphate Injection is a cardiac stimulant primarily prescribed to treat low blood pressure (hypotension) during surgical procedures. Its misuse, especially without medical oversight, can lead to severe cardiovascular complications and, in extreme cases, death. The DCA emphasized that only qualified doctors should determine the appropriate dosage and duration for this medication.

The DCA warned that the abuse of Mephentermine Sulphate Injections poses significant health risks, including cardiovascular disorders. The illegal stocking and sale of such prescription drugs to gym-goers is a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, carrying penalties of up to five years imprisonment for those involved.

The raid was executed by Sri P. Shravan Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal, and Sri J. Kiran Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Hanamkonda, under the supervision of Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal.

The Drugs Control Administration urges the public to report any illegal activities related to medicines, including suspected manufacturing or distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas.
