Do you know April is observed as World Autism Awareness Month? Yes, April month committed to aware people about the Autism.According to the doctors, one out of 100 kids is autistic and still, there is very less awareness among people regarding this developmental disorder, mainly in rural areas.

Early detection and intervention of medicines are highly desired for Autism patients according to the doctors of Government Hospital for Mental Care (GHMC). GHMC doctors treating at least a couple of autistic children per week.

Doctors said that many of the parents are not aware that their children are autistic and medical reports revealed that the prevalence of autism has risen from 1 in 10,000 children about two decades ago to 1 in 100, with 1 in 68 children in Western countries being autistic.

Dr. D Vijayalakshmi, professor of psychiatry at AMC-GHMC said that children may have normal functional IQ  in Autism and in 40-50% of the autistic cases children may also suffer from mental retardation, Down’s Syndrome, low birth weight and seizures.

Effective behavioral therapy and early intervention through medical management can lead children to live a normal life. Treatments help in controlling their aggression and rigidity of behavior.

Rural areas people are still not aware of this disorder and non-availability of sufficient amount of special educators and therapists is a major challenge in autism management. Awareness is highly required and there should be an awareness program to aware teachers, parents and rural households about this disorder to help cure autistic children to get treatment at early stages.
