AIMS hosted two-Day Workshop on Infectious Diseases
Faridabad/ Delhi NCR: From dengue and typhoid to hospital superbugs that no longer respond to standard antibiotics, doctors are up against an increasingly tricky enemy, and that was the focus of a two-day workshop held at Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Faridabad. The “Asian Combating Infections Workshop 2026” brought together specialists to discuss how infections in India are changing, and why drug resistance is fast becoming one of the toughest challenges in modern medicine.
The programme, which drew intensivists, infectious disease physicians, pulmonologists, clinical microbiologists, and post-MBBS residents from across the region, was spread over 22 academic sessions and covered a wide spectrum of topics — from the epidemiology of infections in India and syndromic approaches to uncommon infections, to laboratory biomarkers, tropical infections, and tropical CNS infections.
The first day of the Asian Combating Infections Workshop 2026 was themed “Master Infection Control – From Tropical Diseases to Superbugs,” and it also saw the launch of the first Infectious Disease book prepared by the Department of Critical Care Medicine, marking an important academic milestone.
Specialised sessions also focused on managing multi-drug resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and pan-drug resistant (PDR) Gram-negative and Gram-positive infections, post-transplant infections, neutropenic sepsis, cytokine storm management, novel antibiotics, and antimicrobial stewardship. The second day featured sessions on radiology in infection diagnosis, fungal infections in intensive care, complicated UTIs, and concluded with an interactive quiz on common infectious diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N. K. Pandey, Chairman & Managing Director, Asian Hospital, Faridabad, said, “Drug resistance is no longer a distant worry – it is something we are seeing in our wards every day. Workshops like this exist to make sure our doctors are always a step ahead, learning from each other and staying sharp on how to fight these infections.“

Infections today don’t respect specialty boundaries, and neither should the way we train our clinicians to fight them.”

The launch of our Infectious Disease book adds lasting value beyond the two days of the workshop.“
The event was organised under the leadership of Dr. Jatin Ahuja, Dr. Rohit Kumar Garg (Organising Co-Chairmen), and Dr. Rajni Kant Prasad and Dr. Nitin Saluja (Organising Secretaries), with an academic team comprising Dr. Manav Manchanda, Dr. Prashant Bhatia, Dr. Mahmood Ali, Dr. Apoorva Magu and Dr. Avinash Sharma. Over a dozen faculty members from institutions including AIIMS Delhi, Fortis, Sarvoday, Paras and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, delivered sessions across the two days.
