Ayush and herbal products exports decline 33% in October

New Delhi: Exports of Ayush and herbal products have reported a decline of 33% during the month of October, compared to the same month of previous fiscal year. This is following a decline of 20.58% reported in the month of September, on a Year-over-Year (YoY) basis.

Exports during the month of October, 2025, was at $41.9 million, as compared to $62.6 million in the same month of previous fiscal year, according to data from the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S). In rupee terms, exports reported a decline of 29.6% in October, this year, at Rs. 370.58 crore, as compared to Rs. 526.13 crore registered in October, 2024.

It may be noted that the total exports in terms of value during the month witnessed a marginal decrease of 0.7% compared to the previous year, owing to decline in merchandise exports, even though the services export was strong.

In terms of quantity, October, 2025 reported a decline of around 27.36% in exports at 8,135 MT as compared to 11,199 MT during the same month of 2024.

Cumulative exports during the first seven months of the fiscal year witnessed a decline of 7.85% at $375.92 million as compared to $407.94 million registered in the same period a year ago.

In rupee terms, the cumulative growth from April to October, 2025 witnessed a decline of 4.64% at Rs. 3,254.4 crore, as compared to Rs. 3,412.7 crore in the corresponding period of previous year.

In terms of quantity, decline during the seven months was around 3.3% at 69,975 MT as against 72,382 MT during the same period last year.

Imports of Ayush and herbal products for the first seven months of the fiscal year 2025-26 has reported a growth of 44.64% at $123.17 million YoY as compared to $851.56 million a year ago.

In rupee terms, the growth was 50% at Rs. 1,068.25 crore as against Rs. 712.54 crore registered in the same period of last year. In terms of quantity, the growth was 26.5% at 68,517.4 MT as against 54,146.9 MT reported last year.

During the month of October, 2025, the imports declined 12.5% to $13.61 million against $15.56 million in the same period last year. In rupee terms, this was a 7.97% decline at Rs. 120.31 crore against Rs. 130.7 crore on a YoY basis. Quantity of imports declined by 1.18% at 8,637.5 MT compared to 8,741.1 MT during the corresponding month last year.

As reported earlier, exports reported a decline of 3.3% during the first half of the fiscal year 2025-26, during the period of April to September, 2025, at $334.01 million compared to $345.33 million during the corresponding period of previous fiscal year.

Ayush and herbal products exports reported a growth of 3.6 per cent during the fiscal year 2023-24, at $651.17 million as compared to the same period of previous year. During 2022-23, the exports were $628.54 million. The year 2022-23 registered a growth of 2.68 per cent in exports, from $612.12 million in the previous year.

The Ministry of Ayush has established Ayush Export Promotion Council (Ayushexcil) to promote Ayush products and services globally by the Ministry of Ayush and supported by the Union Ministry of Commerce. It was officially launched at Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on April 20, 2022, and aimed to oversee exports of products of Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Sowa/Rigpa and Unani systems and address trade issues pertaining to these sectors.
