At approximately 03:30 AM, the Border Out Post Dayarampur troops noticed suspicious activity in their area of responsibility. Smugglers were spotted moving towards the international border with bags in their hands. Despite being warned by the troops, the smugglers continued to move forward. The troops fired a stun grenade, but the smugglers did not back down and instead started moving towards the troops with sharp weapons.
