Covid-19: ICMR revised strategy for testing in country

On Monday, The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has revised the strategy for testing coronavirus disease as the number of infected people crossed 1,00,000 mark today
The updated strategy proposes all symptomatic individuals who have recent history of travel tp abroad in the past 14 days to be tested. The strategy also says that test would also be conducted on all symptomatic contacts of laboratory confirmed cases, healthcare workers who are in the battlefield against Covid-19 and patients suffering from Severe Acute Respiatory Infection or SARI.

According to new ICMR testing strategy says, the high-risk contacts of a confirmed case should be tested once between day 5 and day 10 of coming into contact. All symptomatic patients with Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and patients who develop ILI symptoms should also be tested.

Dr Rajnikant Srivastava, the head of the Department of Research Management, Policy Planning and Communication at ICMR said, Till Friday, a total of 20,39,952 samples were tested in the country with 92,911 tests being conducted since Thursday 9 am.
