HCMCT Manipal Hospital blends its Beat Obesity Program with Yoga

New Delhi: HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, Dwarka observed this World Obesity Day (March 4) with an Awareness Session at its premise. The Hospital organised a yoga session in the morning to give tips to manage lifestyle diseases including obesity. The Session was organised in association with Green Circle.

During the Session Nidhi Singh, Clinical Nutritionist, HCMCT Hospitals, Dwarka and Krishan Kumar Garg, International Yoga Champion (Gold Medallist) highlighted the important role of good nutrition and Yoga in preventing and managing lifestyle disorders and diseases. The Yoga Trainers especially focused on those Asanas which helps in fighting obesity. The sessions also focused on elderly care and nearly 50 seniors participated and practiced Yoga.

After the Yoga Session, experts counselled the participants on the critical role of physical activities in everyday life.

To combat obesity, Dr. Randeep Wadhawan, HoD, Department of Minimal Access Surgery, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery & Gastrointestinal Surgery, said, “Obesity is a world-wide pandemic almost 2.1 billion people across the world suffer either from overweight or from obesity. India alone has nearly 135 million of people who are obese. So on the occasion of world obesity day i.e. 4th of March, we must take pledge to get rid of this obesity and fight pandemic. To begin with what we can do is to have change in our lifestyle ensure that we have healthy food, ensure that in our work place we avoid lifts and take stairs to be active during office hours as well.

“On the World Obesity Day, let us all take a pledge to spread awareness and urge people to take step to prevent and manage the disease better. Let us free India from the shackles of obesity. Let us beat obesity,” said the Hospital in its awareness message.
