Pune: The Pune city police have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the illegal sale of injection vials of ‘Mephentermine Sulphate’, a cardiac stimulant drug mis used by young gym-goers as performance enhancement drug.
Acting on a tip-off, the investigators nabbed the accused identified as Omkar Angad Binawade, 21, a resident of Hadapsar on September 13, the police said in a statement on Thursday.
The police also recovered 39 vials of the drug costing Rs 15,561 from Binawade’s possession.
They said the accused was allegedly selling each injection at Rs 600 to Rs 700 illegally.
A first information report (FIR) was lodged against the accused under sections 123, 275, 278, 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
An officer said that investigation is being done to find out the source from where the accused procured the Mephentermine Sulphate injection vials and to whom he was planning to sell them.
According to the police, Mephentermine Sulphate is a prescription drug used to treat low blood pressures in the case of severe medical emergencies. They said that consumption of the drug without doctor’s advice may cause severe long-term effects on health.
